Introduction

The branch of science concerned with the substances of which matter is composed, the investigation of their properties and reactions, and the use of such reactions to form new substances.

Chemistry is beneficial because:

  • Chemistry is central to understanding the phenomena of the reactions of matter;
  • Understanding chemistry allows you to look at any everyday object and understand it on an atomic level;
  • Mastering this subject will give you the tools to evaluate many claims about nutrition and health in your everyday life; and
  • Most university courses with a science pre-requisite will accept or require chemistry.
